Patents benefit everyone. Since their creation in the 1700’s our way of life has constantly been enhanced and improved.
Patent Offices grant patents to individuals or companies that develop inventions that are new and useful. Patents exist as a reward for those that invest risk capital and time to develop new technologies. An individual or company granted with a patent gains exclusive use of the new technology for a defined period of time, subject to the right to repair doctrine. The time period is defined as 20 years from the date the patent was filed. For example, Static Control was granted a patent on our universal chip. The filing date was 08/13/2004. The patent, US Patent Number 7,088,928, will therefore expire on 08/13/2024. After the time limit expires the technology may be used by anyone interested.
Remanufacturers receive many benefits from our Universal Chip. Static Control can offer our customers a product that will lower their inventory requirements, reduce their production costs, and enable them to create a range of universal cartridges. Without the patent process, individuals and companies would have no incentive to risk their time, talent, and money to develop new technology that others would be free to copy. Patents, therefore, should not be viewed as punitive or negative but necessary encouragement to those willing and able to advance new technology that will benefit us all.
Static Control files for patents in the United States and in virtually all of the major countries in the world.
